Got a spare moment? Well then pull up some cyberspace ol’ chap, ’cause I’ve got something to share with you!
Cultural Espionage is all about taking a closer look at current and past trends. In this blog, I’ll share my findings as I figure out what’s behind sundry things people are buzzing about.
Take this Japanese game show for example.
As you can see, the show appears to involve dressing guys up to see who can make a convincing girl. It’s HILARIOUS, but who decided to start this? And what kind of societal trends have created an environment in which this is accepted? Also, what might this hint about the future of television, both in Japan and in the US? After all, Japanese game shows of 20 years ago have found their way onto American television before, as is seen with MXC (see below), which is actually a remixed version of Takeshi’s Castle. With Asian culture becoming increasingly prominent in mainstream American media, the pattern is likely to continue.
The point of Cultural Espionage is to answer questions like these and and share findings in a nice, clean, spy-themed format. Tune in for more- this is sure to be fun!
