So I was poking around Bizarre’s site, and POW- there it was: body inflation.
Wow. So… ok.. I’m REALLY afraid of needles, and this is… well, it freaks the hell out of me, but it’s also deuced fascinating!

Anyway, read Bizarre’s post on it. There’s lots more info and also a bunch of more pictures, some of which I am too squeamish to post.
As you’ll discover, body modification basically involves injecting saline into the body (the face is most effective) and hand-shaping the inflated area as desired. The result is temporary, though the skin may permanently stretch. It’s catching on among urban clubbing subcultures, who are already pretty big into body modification.
In a time where Botox, breast implants, nose jobs, and countless other cosmetic procedures are becoming the norm, it’s interesting to look at the other side of aesthetic alteration- the side that involves rebelling against social norms instead of conforming to them.
Just… just keep the needles away from me.
